"Don't be vague, ask for Haig!"

One of the advertising slogans by Haig & Haig. This is is an ad taken from a magazine dated 1955. They are the oldest grain whisky distillery in Scotland. They produce the Dimple brand in a distinctive three-sided bottle. The distillery is now part of the Diageo PLC. This is the official whisky of Felix Leiter who works for the CIA and assists James Bond as well as being his best friend.

This will be my first post about the whisky I drink. My friend from the Netherlands sent me this sample. He found an entire wooden case of this blended whisky from the 1930s. Wow! This is a pre-war scotch. According to the flying dutchman, all 12 bottles had a different colour. The photograph of the bottle is from his collection. Tonight I will try this pre-war relic.

Colour: I have not seen a whisky in this colour. Squid ink with a tinge of green. Mysterious colour.
Aroma: The type of japanese soya sauce with chopped spring onions for the green tea soba noodle dish.
Taste: Some white pepper. Marks & Spencer Shortbread. Baking powder. Metallic too but in a pleasant way. Has the tin cap dissolved in the whisky?
Rating: 86/100

Really a comfortable little dram. Not every scotch has to involve hours of jigsawing. Sometimes, you don’t have to be Bond, and the Dimple is surely the Felix Leiter of scotch.
